The driving force behind ISTAS was a common challenge: despite transport being integral to the pupil experience, a consistent benchmark for excellence was conspicuously absent.
Many schools operated without clear, defined standards for safety, regulatory compliance, or the overall quality of their transport services. This created a significant vulnerability, posing risks not just to the wellbeing of pupils, but also to the crucial trust parents place in their chosen school and to the operational efficiency of the school itself. ISTAS was therefore developed as a commitment to setting and maintaining these high standards, empowering schools to rigorously assess and enhance their transport provisions, and in turn, offering parents the vital assurance that their child’s daily commute is managed with the utmost care and professionalism.
